In the NFL, one of the things that will get you drafted is a consistent track record of production at both the high school and collegiate level. Today’s report looks at a player in the Big 12 who’s shown a consistency across all three levels: Brennan Presley.
As a senior in high school, Brennen was named the Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year for his senior season, which included the following stats:
- 98 catches for 1,515 yards and 24 touchdowns
- 18 rushes for 129 yards and a touchdown
- Recorded 26 tackles and 7 interceptions
All in one season. That’s production any way this analyst looks at it. He was rated a 3 star recruit by 247 sports, and he elected to take his talents to Oklahoma State.
His freshman year saw limited production, with only 7 catches for 125 yards and 1 TD, with 1 rushing touchdown as well. His next season showed that consistency he had in high school, with 50 catches, 619 yards and 5 touchdowns, along with a rushing touchdown as well.
His production further increased his junior year, topping 800 yards with two touchdowns, and his 2023 season was his best yet statistically: 101 catches, 991 yards, 6 touchdowns and another two rushing touchdowns. But the real question is: Does Brennan’s tape match up to this production? Let’s dive in and find out.
Player Info
Name: Brennan Presley
Jersey: No. 80
Position: Wide Receiver
School: Oklahoma State University
Class: Senior
Height: 5-foot-8
Weight: 175 lbs.
Brennan Presley’s Strengths
Brennan’s biggest strength is his ability to gain yards after the catch. He does through his strong understanding of spacing and timing, and knowing where the holes/gaps are in the opposing defense.
He’s also very versatile, having shown effective contributions on offense (WR/RB) and on special teams as well. He’s also shown great consistency, recording multiple catches in 30 consecutive games at one point in his career.
Brennan Presely’s Weaknesses
Brennan’s biggest knock is his frame; at 5 foot 8, 175 lbs, there’s some teams that will have serious doubts about his body holding up at the next level. Other teams may have him completely off their board due to these size constraints, as it also affects his ability as a run blocker as well.
Brennan also struggles with press coverage, as more physical cornerbacks will be able to outmuscle his smaller frame. In addition, the smaller frame means he can struggle with contested catch situations, as larger defenders can gain leverage easier over him.
Draft Projection
I currently have a Late 4th to Early 5th round grade on Brennan, which is mainly due to his frame. Some teams may overlook this factor, and others may completely remove him from their boards.
However, a creative offensive coordinator will be able to get the most out of Brennan consistently, as well as he also will have some value on special teams as well. These teams should be looking at Brennan in the NFL Draft:
- Cincinnati Bengals (Should Tee be retained, Brennan could be an excellent upgrade as a slot receiver in this Bengals offense, as well as provide the special teams unit with some added juice.)
- Minnesota Vikings (Giving Kevin O’Connell an offensive weapon like Brennan is a huge boost, but this Vikings team is also one of the worst in return yards, which Brennan can provide a major improvement on.)
- Atlanta Falcons (Pairing Brennan with elite offensive talent like Bijan, Drake and Pitts would be a huge boost. In addition, the Falcons can use him out of the backfield with Bijan, and on Special Teams as well.)
Any team who selects Brennan will need to get creative in how he’s used, so his scheme fit is probably more important than any wide receiver in this class. However, a smart offensive coordinator will be able to unlock Brennan’s talent, and turn him into an ace on special teams, as well as a slot receiving superstar.
My comparison for Brennan Presley: Dexter McCluster, WR/RB, Kansas City Chiefs
