In his first year as a full time starter in 2024, Cameron Williams, a former 3-star recruit from Duncanville, Texas became a key piece to Texas’ success as a book end right tackle across from Outland Trophy winner, Kelvin Banks.
Williams was the number 94 ranked player in the state of Texas in 2022 and chose his home state Longhorns over schools such as Oregon, Miami, and Texas Tech. Williams originally committed to play for the Oregon Ducks in July of 2021, before decommitting from Oregon and committing to Texas just 4 days later.
Williams hasn’t yet decided if he is entering the 2025 NFL Draft but if he does decide to leave school he will be a coveted player at the extremely important tackle position.
Player Info
Name: Cameron Williams
Jersey: No. 56
Position: Offensive Tackle
School: University of Texas
Class: Junior
Height: 6-5
Weight: 335 lbs.
Cameron Williams’ Strengths
Cameron Williams’ strengths start with his elite measurables and size for the tackle position. At 6-5, 335 pounds Williams fits the physical profile to be a starting NFL tackle and it’s easy to see on film that he also possesses elite length and it wouldn’t surprise me if his arms are amongst some of the longest of the tackle group at the combine.
In addition to his size, Cameron Williams also shows good athleticism while running blocking and in pass protection. As a run blocker he is quick off the ball and is able to reach his assignment quickly and with power and is a good mover in the run game whenever he keeps his technique consistent. When climbing to the second level he shows good athleticism as he reaches linebackers he’s able to get his hands on his assignment consistently and deal with athletic players in space very well for a big player.
In pass protection he moves very well and he handles speed around the edge successfully using his athleticism. Williams also uses his length very well against pass rushers and prevents them from getting their hands into his chest to control him. He also has great horizontal movement in pass protection and is able to slide back and forth depending on if pass rushers try and counter his approach by changing direction, great mirroring technique.
Cameron Williams’ Weaknesses
Cameron Williams doesn’t have a lot of weaknesses which could be expected from a first year starter at tackle in the SEC. Most of his faults come from inconsistencies in his technique which show up from time to time.
In the run game, Williams occasionally will stand up too high which causes him to not produce much movement in the run. This also allows defenders that are playing with better leverage to shed his blocks or get him off balance easier.
Against pass rushers he can sometimes get caught overextending which happens to a lot of tackles when they get too aggressive which Williams sometimes finds himself doing. When he overextends himself he can get caught and beat by pass rush moves. Overall, all of Williams’ weaknesses are correctable with more coaching and experience which are two things that the NFL or another year at Texas can give him.
Draft Projection
Cameron Williams is one of the most promising players in the offensive tackle group and after a successful year as Texas’ starting right tackle, he has catapulted himself into first round conversations and that’s where I see him landing in April.
As of today, I have Williams as a Top 40 player in the draft and graded as a Future Solid Starter/Solid Contributor Long Term and if he declares for the draft instead of returning to Texas for his senior season I think he should be taken on Day 1 of the draft.
