Throughout this season, Oregon has been one of the top teams in college football. Dan Lanning has a great roster and part of that is that he attacks the transfer portal well to get good players. One of the top players on this team is Derrick Harmon, who has gotten a ton of draft buzz throughout the season.
Derrick Harmon was a 3 star recruit coming out of Detroit, Michigan when he enrolled at Michigan State. After 3 years at Michigan State, Derrick transferred to Oregon and has really grown with the Ducks. Through the regular season, Derrick had 42 tackles with 24 of them being solo. He added 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 pass deflections.
PLAYER INFO
Name: Derrick Harmon
Position: DL
Jersey: 55
Class: Junior
School: Oregon
Height: 6’5″
Weight: 310
STRENGTHS
There are a lot of things I like about Derrick Harmon. He has great quickness and size for the position. He is effective lining up all over the defensive line, showing his versatility. He has great power going up against offensive linemen. He has a strong bull rush, and has violent hands. He is very disruptive in both the run and pass game. Shows great looping ability, which is effective in the pass rush game.
WEAKNESSES
He has struggles to stay involved in the play when going up against a double team. There have been a couple of times on film that he plays too high with his pad level.
DRAFT PROJECTION
This season has helped Derrick Harmon so much that it definitely placed him in the first round conversation. He can go anywhere from the mid first round to the bottom half of the first round. I think he fits best as a 3-technique linemen, and there are several teams who can use him.
- Houston Texans: The Texans can use some interior DL help to ease the pressure off Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson. Harmon can benefit from learning under DeMeco Ryans, and be a key rotational player to begin his career
- San Francisco 49ers: Javon Hargrave suffered a torn pectoral muscle, and no one has really made an impact on the 49ers defensive line outside of Nick Bosa. Harmon can grow, and help replace the loss of the quality defensive linemen the 49ers had in the past
- Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals need defensive help, and Harmon can grow into being the alpha on the defensive line.
