In his first season as the full time starter for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Jalen Milroe has taken College Football by storm. Milroe has a strong, dense build as well as high end speed and acceleration to go with it… truly a unique athlete at the quarterback position.
Jalen Milroe attended high school at Obra D. Thompkins High School in Katy, Texas where he would be named the 2018 District 19-6A Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore and the 2019 District 19-6A Overall MVP as a junior.
Milroe was the 14th ranked quarterback in the 2021 class as a 4-star recruit and eventually committed to Alabama after decommitting from Texas.

Jalen Milroe’s Strengths
He displays a borderline elite ability to improvise, routinely being able to evade what would be sacks for most other quarterbacks in College Football. Milroe can take broken plays and make them into 50-yard explosive plays that change the game or flip field position at the very least. Along with a very impressive improvisational ability,
Milroe possesses borderline elite play speed and burst. He gets to top speed extremely fast and he has the speed to pull away from linebackers and defensive backs. Milroe has great rushing upside with his movement abilities and overall athleticism. He is a very tough and competitive runner which, depending on how you look at it, is a big plus.
Jalen has very good arm strength which can easily be seen when his feet are set and he’s able to really uncork it without having to speed up his release process. In addition to his speed and burst, he has a very good ability to change direction which really aides his ability to escape a collapsing pocket.
Additionally, Milroe displays decent strength and contact balance despite not having the utmost overwhelmingly large frame. Jalen has overall solid ball security and, though inconsistent, shows flashes of high end touch.
Jalen Milroe’s Weaknesses
His accuracy at all levels of the field are highly inconsistent and average at best. He has flashes of elite ball placement with high degrees of difficulty.
Pocket management is well below average, at times completely unbothered by impending pressure and at other times is bailing clean pockets or isn’t stepping up into the pocket. Milroe’s ability to anticipate a wide receiver coming open or gaining leverage on a defensive back is bad as his (2023) tape is riddled with late throws and snaps in which he is not keeping the offense in rhythm.
A very large contributor to Milroe’s inconsistencies can be attributed to bad footwork in my opinion. His base is constantly varied, there is no repeatability to it or any sort of ordered alterations to his base while progressing throughout his reads.
This could also be a large contributing factor to his lack of anticipatory throws as he constantly has to reset his base when he’s ready to throw instead of being ready to start his motion the second he arrives at his next progression. Jalen’s processor is very bad, though he has his stretches with quality decision making, he consistently makes turnover worthy plays sporadically throughout any given game.
Milroe has very bad, unrepeatable mechanics at the moment that cause massive accuracy and velocity issues with his throws.
Draft Projection
After evaluating Jalen Milroe’s 2023 Alabama tape to get a general idea of what kind of quarterback he is, I have come to a the conclusion that Milroe has a lot to prove in 2024 and depending on where his progression is at by April 2025 he may have to utilize his last year of eligibility in order to cement his name in the top 10 of the draft.
I currently have a late third round grade on the young quarterback, and while he may not be able to immediately start… Jalen Milroe possesses special traits that could make him a good NFL quarterback.
