Alabama has produced a lot of defensive backs that have produced in the NFL. Guys from Marlon Humphrey and Minkah Fitzpatrick to Patrick Surtain II and Brian Branch have been carrying the Alabama tradition of defensive backs being taken in the first 2 days of the NFL Draft. Alabama is about to add on to that with Malachi Moore.
Malachi Moore was a four star recruit in the 2020 class and immediately stepped in on defense. Malachi had a impact freshman year intercepting 3 passes and making 44 tackles helping him land on 2nd team All-SEC.
Ever since the 2020 season, Malachi has been one of the most consistent and productive players for the Crimson Tide. This season so far, Malachi has 42 tackles (22 solo), 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 interception.

Malachi Moore’s STRENGTHS
Malachi has been a starter for 5 seasons now, giving him a lot of experience. He is versatile, as he can drop deep or drop down to man up against a receiver. He is a good tackler in the open field, taking good angles to make the tackle. He is always near the ball, making plays and reading the receiver to know when it’s the right time to make the play. He has solid speed for a safety, which helps him drop deep or come down to make a play on the ball carrier.
Malachi Moore’s WEAKNESSES
Malachi’s hand usage isn’t great as he has a hard time disengaging from blockers. He is not the most physical defensive back, which can dictate where teams feel comfortable putting him at. While he is a good tackler, he tends to resort to ankle-tackling which leads to missed opportunities.
DRAFT PROJECTION
I see Malachi as a Day 2 pick. His versatility is going to be coveted by teams as he can line up in the slot or in the free safety pick. Teams like the New York Jets, Washington Commanders, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers and the Chicago Bears would be a good fit.
