Nic Scourton is your prototypical EDGE prospect by definition. The 3rd year defender has found himself playing some high-quality SEC football as he makes a push for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Scourton is just halfway through his first year at Texas A&M, as he was a sophomore transfer from Purdue. Last season with the Boilermakers he got his shot at starting snaps, racking up 50 tackles with 10 sacks. As he comes to the highest competition in college football, he has still produced 20 tackles with 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

Nic Scourton’s Strengths
Nic is your prototype edge setting defensive lineman. Coming into college as a top high school recruit, his size and build gave him the same popularity coming into the next level. It is clear that even as a junior, Scourton does not need any development as a stand-up edge.
The film pops on this player simply because of his ability to use all the tools. He may not have a go to move, but he has ability to use speed, power, and defend the run all at a solid level. Teams enjoy the versatility he comes with.
Nic is a high motor player with great pursuit and relentless nature. He uses a long arm to collapse, and once the QB bails, it is predator/prey.
Nic Scourton’s Weaknesses
Once Scourton’s mind is made up, it does not seem to change. He has a large toolbox, but has a hard time accepting the tool he chose may have been the wrong one.
When the strong rusher lands his hands, he has ultimate success, even if not on the stat sheet. With that being said, he can get outside the center with his placement, causing a less effective rush.
When set up in a 9 tech, he can get after it, but on early downs when placed in a 4i or 3 technique (inside the tackles) he can struggle to bend around the EDGE and keep contain if it is a pass.
Draft Projection
Scourton, although not a top 10 player, should be a first-round lock based on positional value and traits. His high upside, large skill set, and will and determination will be green flags for a lot of teams in need of rushing the QB.
Some perfect fits for Scourton are Atlanta if Judon leaves, Vegas to counter Crosby on the edge, and New Orleans to prepare for Cameron Jordan’s resignation. I see a 12-20 range for Nic and see him transferring to a Keion White of the Patriots type of role. If he sures up the ability to read run vs pass and counter accordingly, he has untapped potential.
