With him having officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft and accepting a shrine bowl invite despite an ACL injury that ended his season, today’s report dives deeper into the star corner from the Carolinas whose tape has really intrigued this analyst, Shavon Revel.
Having been rated as a 3 star prospect by 247 sports, Shavon was an excellent two player and multi sport athlete while in high school. His senior season saw him tally 38 tackles, 4 interceptions on defense and 33 receptions, 439 yards and 5 touchdowns on offense.
In addition, he also was a track and field star, posting a 6.90 in the 55 meter dash, a 20-9.5 long jump and a 5-8 high jump, while also being clocked at 4.40 in a 40 yard dash at ECUs summer camp, at which point the pirates realized that they had a true star on their hands. However, he would spend his first two years at Louisburg College, before transferring back to ECU.
His first season at ECU, there wasn’t a lot of production, as he only tallied 8 tackles in 9 games, logging over 100 snaps between defense and special teams. The next season would be a larger increase in production, as Shavon tallied 55 tackles, 6 pass deflections, 1 sack and 1 interception as well, creating serious buzz for his 2024 season.
However, as mentioned at the start of the article, Shavon’s season was cut short after an ACL Tear 3 games into his season. He was doing well, with 8 tackles, 2 interceptions (including a pick 6), and 2 pass deflections.
Some analysts and draftniks have concerns on the lack of production, but does the tape match this? Let’s dive on in.
Player Info
Name: Shavon Revel
Jersey: No. 28
Position: Cornerback
School: Eastern Carolina University (ECU)
Class: Senior
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 193 lbs.
Shavon Revel’s Strengths
Shavon’s exceptional frame and length are some of the best in this class, allowing him to handle some of the larger receivers in this class with ease in press man situations. Couple this with his elite straight speed (4.4 40 yard dash) and you have an athletic nightmare for wideouts, as Revel can keep up with them and annoy them all game long.
He has very fluid hips and a smooth backpedal, allowing him to turn and run with faster receivers with ease. He also is a very versatile talent, showing the skill set to play in man coverage, zone coverage, and press coverages as well.
He also is a strong tackler with good technique, who isn’t afraid to mix it up and hit someone in the run game. In addition, he is a special teams ace as a gunner and a kick/punt block specialist, providing even more value for NFL franchises.
Shavon Revel’s Weaknesses
His production is a concern, as he only has 1 year of production as a starter, which raises a question of how consistent he will be at the next level. He also can be very over aggressive, in coverage, which will lead to flags and penalties, as well as blown coverages in the pro game.
You’d also want to see him add mass to his frame, as he is a bit on the leaner side in terms of a prospect. He also is an older prospect, with a non traditional path to the NFL, which I fully expect GMs to dissect at the combine in his interviews.
Draft Projection
Currently, I have Shavon Revel as a top 50 player in this NFL Draft cycle, even with the injury concerns moving forward. There’s a high probability that he could sneak into the back half of round 1 of the NFL Draft, with teams like the Rams, Buccaneers, Packers and Vikings all having an interest in Revel, paired with their need at CB.
Ultimately, his medicals are going to be a conversation piece at the Shrine Bowl and the Combine, but Shavon is a talented player when healthy, and the team that selects him will have a potential lock down corner on their team should he be able to stay healthy.
My comparison for Shavon Revel: Richard Sherman, CB, Seattle Seahawks
