Shedeur Sanders has been one of the more talked about quarterback in this year’s draft. He is a bit undersized for a quarterback at 6’2” but is your average weight for quarterback at the next level. Sanders played his high school football at Trinity Christian High School in Dallas where he was very successful winning two TCAL National Championships. Originally committing to Florida Atlantic as a 4star recruit, Sanders decided to follow his dad to Jackson State. Sanders quickly took over the starting job there as a true freshman. He played two seasons for Jackson State, passing for nearly 7,000 yards and threw 70 touchdowns to just 14 interceptions. Accumulating a 21-3 record there with two SWAC championships. In 2021, Sanders won the Jerry Rice FCS National Freshman of the Year award and was a finalist in 2022 for the Walter Payton award.
After those two seasons Sanders followed his dad again and transferred to Colorado. In his first season there he started and played in 11 games for the Buffs. And despite a terrible offensive line in 2023 for Colorado, Sanders managed to throe for 3,230 yards, 27 Touchdowns and only three interceptions. The start of 2024 has been better for Sanders and the Buffs, posting a 5-2 record thus far. Offensive line struggles continue, but Sanders has been good up to this point in the season, throwing for almost 3,000 yards and 19 touchdowns. He has started every game so far for Colorado.

Shedeur Sanders Strengths
Sanders has exceptional arm strength and can make NFL level throws with velocity and when needed touch. He shows good pocket awareness being able to climb and maneuver pocket when under pressure while keeping his eyes downfield. Has the ability to go throw progressions when his first read is not there. Has starting experience across multiple levels of competition in the FCS and in Power 5.
Shedeur Sanders Weaknesses
Shedeur can sometimes have inconsistent footwork which leads to inaccurate throws. He also lacks elite mobility which hinders his ability to extend plays and create opportunities outside of the pocket. Too many times Sanders holds onto the ball to long instead of either throwing the ball away or trying to run the ball. Often times Shedeur will escape the pocket and instead of taking a few yards running he will try, and force plays with his arm.
Draft Projection
Sanders has upside if placed in the right situation meaning a decent offensive line and a pro-style offense. What can set him apart from other QB’s in the draft is his ability to play at a highly efficient level despite challenging situations.
I think that Shedeur will be drafted within the top 5 of the 2025 NFL draft and I think his best fit would be the Carolina Panthers who have a strong offensive line and a young core of skill players the team can build around.
