2025 NFL Scouting Report: Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas

Quinn Ewers has had high praise and expectations since his days in high school football.

Quinn Ewers with the Texas Longhorns

Quinn Ewers has had high praise and expectations since his days in high school football. Coming out of the 2021 HS recruiting class Ewers committed to Ohio State.

After not getting the playing time he wanted his freshman year, he transferred back to his home state of Texas committing to the Longhorns.

His first year as a starter was shaky with a lot more downs than highlights. His second year as a starter he grew and had more highlight plays unfortunately Ewers got hurt but stepped back in to clinch Texas a spot in the CFP, falling 1 throw short to earning a ticket to the National Championship.

After deciding to return even with facing heat in the off-season of uber talented backup QB Arch Manning being their still, Ewers picked up starting his season with a high note defeating a then ranked top 10 Michigan squad in dominant fashion.

Ewers has recently been diagnosed with an oblique injury, which makes it 3 years in a row with some sort of injury. Still, Ewers has boosted his stock into a potential top 50 pick.

Player Info

Name: Quinn Ewers

Jersey: No.2

Position: QB

School: Ohio State (2021) Texas (2022-2024)

Class: Redshirt Senior

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 210 Lbs.

Quinn Ewers Strength’s

Ewers has a live arm, it’s the first thing you notice on tape. He can make all of the NFL throws. With the arm strength Ewers is slowly starting to throw with touch and a little more accuracy which will be good to build off of in the NFL.

He has ample athletic ability being able to move well in and out of the pocket. Ewers has a favorable quick and snappy release meaning he gets the ball out quicker than QBs whom have a long circular release. Ewers is much like JJ McCarthy in which he’s like a ball of clay, being able to be molded with the tools to be successful in the NFL in the long run.

Quinn Ewers Weaknesses

Ewers is very raw still, and with losing game reps from injuries he is going to continue to be raw up until a few years in the league. His processor is just now finally slowing down for him so he’s just no understanding how to read and see the field.

There’s still bad boneheaded decisions from Ewers that hurt the team, whether it’s poor judgment on his reads or getting too cocky with his arm those decisions often lead to turnovers. Under pressure Ewers speeds everything up including his footwork which creates problems getting into his lower body mechanics. Ewers struggles with accuracy a lot of the time which also hurts his draft stock and projection.

Draft Projection

Right now Ewers is my QB3, and holds a top 50 grade. If a team wanted to bet on his traits even in the first round I would be okay with the pick. Ewers can be a good plus starter for a team if he is able to sit and develop for a year or two.

If Ewers goes to a team with a good infrastructure and talented coaching and player Ewers can thrive and hit his full ceiling which in my eyes is very high.

I see shades of Geno Smith and JJ McCarthy from Ewers. Here are a couple teams and systems I believe Ewers would fit and succeed in.

  • Carolina Panthers
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Las Vegas Raiders
  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • New York Jets
  • NewYork Giants
