Player Summary:
RS Senior, big right tackle with extensive starting experience. He possesses marginal height and decent weight at 320. He has average speed and an average athletic ability. He has decent quickness in his movement off the line and average COD and keeps his feet active throughout the duration of the play. He uses his arm length effectively, and gets inside pass rushers pads and doesn’t let go easily. On zone blocks, his pulling speed is marginal. In pass pro, he plays with a solid base and active hands and legs. He gets a good first step backward to be able to set his base quickly. He displays solid play strength and a decent anchor against bullrushing opponents. He plays mentally tough and rugged, as he fights and finishes blocks to get guys on the ground. When his first step is lacking, (usually later in the game) and he gets beaten around the edge he tends to resort to holding, a lot of which he gets away with. His play speed is lacking, and he looks slow in open space when looking for someone to block. He is much better against bullrushing pass rushers than speed rushers, as he has an effective anchor but lacks the quality agility to be effective against bendier, flexible pass rushers who get to the quarterback by means of bending and spinning. However, he is technically sound and has decent mechanics in his pass protection efforts. As the game continues, he tends to get higher in his stance and needs to consistently keep his pad level low. His balance is decent, as he does not end up on the ground very often and he keeps his feet moving. His lateral movement is average when pulling to the perimeter. He lacks a certain pop in his first punch. He has ordinary counter measures against athletic edge rushers.
Scheme Fit:
RT/more proficient as a pass protector
Power Statement:
Tough RT with decent size and extensive starting experience who is decent as a pass protector and has a solid anchor to counter bullrushing defenders. He lacks the athletic ability to be as effective against speed rushers but has good mechanics to try and make up for what he lacks. He has solid play strength but marginal play speed and quickness in space.
