The Senior Bowl has established itself as the premier postseason college football all-star event. This year’s stacked roster features a wealth of talent, with many players poised to excel at the professional level. As I attend the event for the first time on February 1st, here are some players I’ll be keeping an eye on both offense and defense.
OFFENSE
Jalen Milroe-QB-Alabama
The most polarizing quarterback prospect in a weak draft class, Milroe showcased a wide range of performances throughout the season. At times, he looked like a potential top-five pick, while at other moments, he struggled significantly. Everyone knows he can throw a deep ball and run effectively, but his performance as a pocket passer during this week will be crucial in evaluating his draft stock for me to comfortably be the QB3 in this draft class.
Jonah Savaiinaea-OL-Arizona
Jonah is one of the more underrated prospects in this year’s draft class. Playing both right guard and tackle at Arizona, he excelled at both positions. While I believe he is a first round prospect, I think that a great week of practice will really propel him into a sure-fire first round prospect since teams value versatility on the offensive line.
Cam Skattebo-RB-Arizona State
One of the most recognizable players in college football this past season, Skattebo’s rise could gain even more momentum with a strong Senior Bowl performance. Known for his tough running style and relentless effort on every play, Skattebo has the potential to leave a lasting impression on scouts and general managers throughout Senior Bowl week.
Elijah Arroyo-TE-Miami (FL)
One of the more underrated tight end prospects in this year’s draft class, Elijah is a good vertical threat who does not draft the ball that much. His blocking is a question for me, but if he improves the blocking, I think his draft stock will rise for teams looking for a tight end that can also play in the slot.
Will Howard-QB-Ohio State
Ohio State’s CFP run has significantly boosted Will Howard’s draft stock, putting him in the conversation as a potential QB3. His athleticism, size, and experience playing quarterback at both Kansas State and Ohio State have made him one of the top quarterbacks in college football. However, I’m eager to see if he can further refine his mechanics and improve his post-snap reads during Senior Bowl week.
DEFENSE
Darien Porter-DB-Iowa State
Darien Porter is a compelling prospect in this year’s defensive back draft class. He possesses impressive length and demonstrates versatility, excelling at both nickel and outside positions. This week presents opportunity for him to address concerns about his limited playing time and solidify his value to teams.
Mike Green-EDGE-Marshall
Mike Green’s rise as a draft prospect has been nothing short of remarkable, fueled by his FBS-leading 17.0 sacks this season. In a strong edge rusher class, it will be fascinating to watch Green, who seemingly burst onto the scene, test his skills against some of the best competition in this draft class.
Xavier Watts-S-Notre Dame
Throughout Notre Dame’s playoff run, viewers can see how important Xavier is for Notre Dame’s defense. As the top safety on my board, I’m excited to see his versatility going on display during Senior Bowl week. There is potential that he can sneak into the back end of the first round with a great week.
Shemar Stewart-EDGE-Texas A&M
There has been a lot of hype about Stewart going in the 1st round due to his length and athletic tools. Even though he had only a high of one and a half sacks, it will be interesting to see how a player with his goes up against some of the top competition in this draft.
Darius Alexander-DL-Toledo
Every year, small-school prospects rise up draft boards during Senior Bowl week, and I believe Darius will be one of them. With his long arms and ability to generate pressure from multiple positions along the defensive line, I’m eager to see his athleticism and skills showcased on this stage.
